As a long time RHCP fan I have always appreciated their changing and evolving style. Interestingly many of Anthony's lyrics that I thought didn't mean anything and were just there to rhyme, were revealed to have great meaning after reading his book.Anyway, a heap of great songs on the album and John's guitar playing is awesome. Whenever I need an epic track to lift me up I put on "Don't Forget Me" so loud the windows rattle, incredible base line and the guitar breaks are inspired. "I'm the blood stain on your shirt sleve" "I'm the rainbow in your jail cell".No they aren't still doing what they were doing 20 years ago, thankfully.
What really got me into this album was seeing their DVD of the By The Way tour live at Slane Castle - it's insane. This album is a change from the funky beats of the other RHCP albums, but I like it. The songs are more melodic and fit Frusciante's emotional playing well. If you haven't seen it, Google it now. My faves: 'Minor Thing', 'Dosed', 'By the Way' and 'I Could Die For You'
The Chili Peppers are my favorite band and this is my favorite album by them. Anyone who appreciates good quality music should definitely buy this album. It is well worth it and never gets old. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.
This is an album full of complete competence, rarely stepping above and beyond to bring it like they used to, but offering a lengthy album full of non-threatening, radio-ready rock in a way that did not completely insult the listeners intelligence.
I cant believe all the good reviews this has gotten. This cd stinks. I bought this and Stadium Acradium at the same time. If your a die hard fan I guess you have to buy this but this is a clunker. Stadium is so much better. By the way is their weakest cd. Two ok songs on it. The rest are forgettable.
